Zimma-Rimba builds a life-long love of music through Zimbabwean-style marimba. We focus on excellence in musical performance and the sheer joy, excitement and sense of community that participation in music can bring. The Shona people of Zimbabwe regard everyone as musical. If there is a music concert, everyone brings an instrument to play or feet with which to dance. There is an old Zimbabwean proverb; if you can walk you can dance, if you can talk you can sing. No matter your age, young or old, join us and learn the joy of playing Zimbabwean marimba.
Instructors, Jeremy Phillips and Mary Carla Whitaker, offer weekly group classes, summer camps, private instruction, solo classes, and teacher workshops on Zimbabwean-style marimbas for adults and children. Participants are introduced to all types of marimbas in the African marimba ensemble, as well as hosho (gourd rattles) and drums.
Zimma-Rimba is available to perform for your event, concert, festival, or church service.
